Stronger, Faster, Lighter... Fortal® is the Material Solution for You!

Fortal Plate

Fortal® is an aircraft-quality aluminum with applications in many industries. Available exclusively from Superior Die Set Corporation, Fortal® is lightweight with excellent machining properties. In addition, Fortal® is also stronger than 1020 steels, and provides superior energy absorption, with a modulus of elasticity that is one-third that of steel. Fortal® provides high corrosion resistance and is delivered free of tensions and stresses giving you the consistency of a product that rarely deforms during machining or use. These benefits lead to higher productivity and lower tooling costs, which add up to a competitive edge for you.

Fortal® is available from Superior Die Set Corporation in plate, die sets, and mold bases.

Fortal® Applications

Finished Machined Fortal Plate

Fortal® Plate

Fortal® is an ideal choice for all types of products and tooling. Fortal® HR is available in thicknesses from 7 mm to 92mm, and Fortal® HP comes in thicknesses from 102mm to 202mm. One advantage that Fortal offers is consistent mechanical properties throughout the cross section of the plate, even in heavier thickness up to 202 mm.

Fortal Aluminum Mold Bases

Fortal® Mold Bases

Excellent machinability, high strength and light weight make Fortal® the smart choice for low production and prototype tooling applications. Offering consistent material characteristics throughout its cross section, Fortal® is ideal for deep cavity work. In addition, you can machine and EDM faster and have improved polishability over conventional mold steels. Because Fortal® is a very good conductor of heat, your finished tool will heat and cool faster, which reduces your cycle times and improves the quality of the molded components. Superior Die Set Corporation manufactures both standard and special mold bases in Fortal® aluminum.

Die Sets

When you choose Fortal® for your die set you gain many advantages over a traditional steel die set. Fortal® dies are 50-60% lighter, making them easier to handle and store. Machining time is up to five times faster including conventional and wire EDM. The lightweight Fortal® die set also allows you quicker setups, faster press operation and stopping time and less wear on the working elements of the press, such as breaks and clutches. These benefits help increase your hourly productivity and put you a step ahead of the competition.
